On Tuesday, October 8, Logos president Helio Fred Garcia moderated the first of three panel discussions about disinformation and its impact on the 2024 election. Hosted by the Museum of Public Relations, the panel featured author and MSNBC legal analyst Barbara McQuade and University of Georgia professor David Clementson.
This first panel discussion was titled "Disinformation, Deception and Democracy: An Urgent Call to Communicators." During their hour-long discussion, the panelists discussed how the advent of technology has affected the spread of disinformation, how fact-checking fails to convince people that something they have heard is untrue, and how efforts to correct disinformation often lead people to double-down on their point of view. The panelists also discussed the need for communicators to recommit ourselves to the truth in our work.

The next panel discussion in this series, titled "Disinformation, Deception and Democracy - Part II: What Communicators Need to Understand About This Year's Election," will happen on Friday, October 25.
