Logos Institute Press
The Logos Institute for Crisis Management and Executive Leadership stands at the intersection of scholarship and practice, providing rigorous analysis and practical application of key leadership principles. It is in this same spirit that the Institute’s publishing imprint Logos Institute for Crisis Management and Executive Leadership Press was created, to produce written material to help clients and students build their own capacity for leadership and effective communication, in crisis and other high-stakes situations.
Four books have been published under the imprint as of May 2024. The first three books — The Agony of Decision: Mental Readiness and Leadership in a Crisis by Logos President Helio Fred Garcia; Five Frequencies: Leadership Signals that turn Culture into Competitive Advantage by Jeff Grimshaw, Tanya Mann, Lynne Viscio, and Jennifer Landis; and The Power of Genuine Leadership: How Authentic Leaders Earn Trust by Patrick Donahue PhD — are part of the Logos Institute Best Practices Series, which showcases conceptual frameworks that help clarify complex issues, combined with insightful case studies, examples, and actionable tools, tips, and techniques that help leaders make smart choices and build competitive advantage.
Our most recent book — The Trump Contagion: How Incompetence, Dishonesty, and Neglect Led to the Worst-Handled Crisis in American History by Helio Fred Garcia — is the first volume in the Logos Institute Crisis Case Study Series, which reflects on the predictable patterns of crises to help leaders make and execute smart choices when they face crises. Each book will take a deep look at one significant crisis and the lessons that leaders can derive from that crisis.
By Helio Fred Garcia
There is a process for managing infectious disease outbreaks, and Ebola showed that the U.S. was pretty good at it. So Logos president Helio Fred Garcia was astonished in the early months of the pandemic that the U.S. was not following the infectious disease management playbook for COVID-19. Rather, it was making all the predictable mistakes that Logos always warn our clients against.
The Trump Contagion is Garcia’s attempt to bear witness to the decision-making
that unnecessarily cost so many lives and disrupted life as we knew it. The book demonstrates the American President’s incompetence, dishonesty, and neglect that made the U.S. COVID-19 response the single worst-handled crisis in American history. This book illustrates the consequences of not taking crisis management seriously, and provides valuable lessons to help leaders avoid similar failures when they manage future crises.
