Reporters are in the business of telling stories that people want to read or watch. Therefore, a story needs to be interesting for a reporter to tell that story. Leaders, however, often focus on what’s important and what is accurate. The challenge for leaders is then how to engage with reporters in that overlap of what is simultaneously interesting, important, and accurate. Once leaders understand how reporters operate, the strategy for engaging with reporters and how to approach a press interview becomes clear.
